Clear toy candy was handmade in bakeries in the 19th century. Especially in southern Germany it was very popular. Chocolate was very expensive and hard to get at that time. So these extrem filigrane sugarpieces were created. Most of the moulds display rabbits, but there are also other animals and christmas patterns.

In the 1950s and 60s chocolate figures came onto the market, chocolate became cheaper, and so the clear toy candy dissapeared more and more from bakeries and candy shops. There are only a few bakeries left, that produce clear toy candy. Those who still own clear toy candy moulds, because the moulds are no longer produced and hard to find.
